For any entrepreneur out there, you should familiarize yourself with Saddlerock Advisors. This group advises U.S. and Israeli early stage companies for fundraising and overall long term success. They regularly host events giving small and midsize business the chance to showcase their product to an audience of technologists, entrepreneurs and investors.
Last week, Healthy Tech was held at White and Williams LLP where four companies were able to present their products and services to an audience and panel of Investors. It was very interesting to be in the room with investors from Dreamit Ventures and Gaingels Angel Group because of the sharpness of their questions. Being able to pick up on the minor details and ask bigger questions was something special. For instance, an investor from Dreamit Ventures seen that the URL for Osmosis ended in "org". As a spectator, that detail from their slide presentation went over my head and the very first question that the investor asked was in regards to the reasoning behind the "org".
I wanted to discuss two of the companies I found most interesting and are also hiring.
They're a healthcare concierge service taking care of all the things employees don't like or don't know how to deal with. They help employees with billing mistakes, finding and coordinating with providers, selecting health insurance plans, and more. Their service provides every member with a personal health assistant who provides complete support at open enrollment and throughout the year.
I personally like this company because of my background in human resources. Working behind the scenes you get a better understanding of the intricate details of health insurance when it comes to deductibles, co-pays, FSA, and the difference between a good plan and a bad plan.
What I did learn about the healthcare concierge space is that while it may not be such a hot space, there is a lot of savings benefits for employers and employees. An interesting stat is that the member engagement for TouchCare is 20% compared to 2% member engagement from their competitors. This isn't a service that will be used all the time by every employee, but as a business you want to make sure your staff receives the best service when dealing with something as serious as healthcare. I'd recommend this service for any HR team out there that is having headaches with benefits and surviving the open enrollment tsunami.
They're helping hundreds of thousands of future clinicians learn efficiently and excel on classes, boards, and in the clinic. Created by the former Khan Academy Medicine team and Johns Hopkins medical students, Osmosis aims to provide future clinicians and caregivers the best education so that they can provide the best care. Their popular videos are featured on Wikipedia, YouTube, Medscape/WebMD, the Washington Post, and many other outlets.
Their business model is pretty simple. They are generating money from their tiered plans (free, 1 year, 2 years, 4 years) and marketing this to current and future medical professionals. With over 1M subscribers on YouTube, their generating about 15 hours of content weekly across all their platforms. They are not only videos, but they work closely with universities to make practice questions and flashcards.
For those who have an interest in learning about anything dealing with the human body I encourage you to check out their videos. I watched a video on Measles since their has been a bunch of talk on Anti - Vaccination talk in the news. While I wasn’t too familiar with all the medical jargon, the videos were simple enough for me to follow along and gain more knowledge than I had before. Aka Wash your hands frequently and don’t touch you face.
I want to highlight the other companies who attended the event, JetSweat Fitness and Sotere Medical.
